Augusta County is working to update its comprehensive plan, which will guide growth and development decisions over the next 20 years. The plan looks at all aspects of the county from housing to transportation to open space and economics. (If you need a refresher on the role of a comprehensive plan, you can look back at Nancy Sorrells’ 2020 article Superheroes Need Good Sidekicks.)
It is important that Augusta County residents participate because the plan will guide decision-making when threats (think, Atlantic Coast Pipeline, Greenville Distribution Center) and opportunities (a Shenandoah Mountain National Scenic Area) arise.
As Supervisor Shull is quoted saying,
Your active participation in crafting this Comprehensive Plan will directly influence Augusta County’s course over the next 20 years, ensuring thoughtful growth and development that respects our rich history and shapes the future of our infrastructure, transportation, and public services.
Currently there are five community input meetings scheduled in November. These meetings are drop-in style, so please come by as you can and circulate around stations to learn more about the revision process, ask questions and give your input on specific topic areas. You can also give input through an online community survey here.
The Alliance will follow the comp plan update process closely and will keep this web page up-to-date with plan progress and any other opportunities to provide input. You can also find more information on the county’s comprehensive plan update page here.
Thank you in advance to Augusta County residents for their participation in this process so that the county can grow in a way that respects its rich cultural roots, vibrant communities and valuable natural resources.
