Shenandoah Valley Rail Trail Feasibility Study Authorized by General Assembly
The General Assembly passed a budget amendment authorizing the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation to assess the feasibility of a Shenandoah Valley Rail Trail project. The feasibility study is an important next step in the ongoing exploration of converting the discontinued Norfolk Southern rail line into a multi-purpose trail.
This project enjoys broad support from the community with mayors, town councilmembers, county representatives and non-profits along the corridor as members of the Shenandoah Rail Trail Exploratory Partnership. As Alliance Executive Director Kate Wofford said in this article in the Virginia Mercury,
