Construction on the first utility-scale solar project for the Town of Mount Jackson has been delayed due to additional permitting and tariff issues. The project, proposed to be constructed in three phases, is located on land south of the Town of Mount Jackson annexed from the County in 2016. Construction of phase one is now anticipated to begin in 2020.
Virginia Solar’s special-use permit for phase one of the project (160 acres and 15 MW) was approved by the Mount Jackson Town Council in 2017.
Special-use permits for phases two (175 acres and 18.9MW) and three (145 acres and 16.2MW) were submitted by solar developer, Cypress Creek Renewables, who purchased the rights to all three phases from Virginia Solar, were approved in October 2018.
