State officials are making transportation funding decisions over the next few weeks. There is a great local project that could use some extra support.
A proposal is submitted for a shared use path on Market Street (Rt. 33) over the I-81 Interchange at Exit 247. Upgrades to the bridge are already funded and underway, and since bridges are designed to last a very long time, now is the most economical time to add a shared use path so pedestrians, cyclists and traffic can all safely navigate the corridor.
If the shared use path is not added into the current construction plans, it may never be possible, taking into consideration the added expense of a retrofit.
Please take a moment to send a note to Virginia Department of Transportation and let them know it is essential that project #4027 is funded in the 2020 Six Year Improvement Program through the SMART SCALE Statewide High Priority Fund. This project will ensure safe passage of all modes of transportation through a busy and currently unsafe corridor.
