The updated Warren County Comprehensive Plan is up for what is likely its final public hearing by the board of supervisors on Tuesday, April 1.
Overall, the revised plan does a good job upholding the goals and objectives supported by the community in previous versions. You may recall we highlighted a few areas for improvement last year to the planning commission.
1. We opposed the rezoning of an agricultural parcel north of the Family Dollar distribution center on Hwy 340/522 to industrial use in the future land use map. Great news! The planning commission agreed and in the current plan draft, the parcel remains in agriculture.
2. We also questioned the specifics of allowed accessory dwelling units in the plan. The planning commission opted to keep most of the language in the draft plan about accessory dwelling units, but did remove a reference to a 3.5 minimum lot size.
The county will create a specific zoning ordinance to further define how and where accessory dwelling units will be allowed. We’ll follow this process closely and will be in touch with details.
At the public hearing on April 1, 2025, the board of supervisors may approve and adopt, amend and adopt, or disapprove of the plan recommended by the planning commission. It has been a long process, but please mark your calendar to come out one more time to let the supervisors know what you think about the plan. If you can’t make the meeting, you can also submit email comments to your supervisor and planning staff.
