The Warren County Board of Supervisors adopted its updated comprehensive plan at the April 1 meeting and this document now guides all land use decisions made by the planning commission and board.
As stated by the county, the overarching goal of the comprehensive plan is the following:
“To maintain and enhance the quality and character of Warren County’s natural and human-made environment by promoting the efficient use and conservation of the county’s land and natural resources. This is to effectively meet the social and economic needs of present and future citizens.”
The updated plan does a strong job upholding the values that Warren County residents have long supported, including protecting rural character, directing growth towards Front Royal and conserving natural resources. We were also pleased to see the input from the community visioning workshops in both Rockland and Browntown incorporated into the plan. In addition, we’re excited to see a new section that encourages agritourism within the county.
The Alliance raised questions about the plan’s details regarding accessory dwelling units, which ultimately required a zoning text amendment. We will follow the crafting of the zoning amendment closely to ensure that accessory dwelling units remain compatible with Warren’s rural, agricultural character.
Congratulations to everyone who worked hard on the update!
