We, once again, need to show strong, unified community support for the 49-mile Shenandoah Rail-to-Trail, the proposed multi-use recreational trail connecting 3 counties and 9 towns and boosting local economies from Broadway to Front Royal. We all need to chime in one more time that yes, we want this trail.
Last time we posted, the trail was in a precarious spot, threatened by a surprise proposal to transfer the corridor to another entity for an entirely different project.
Fortunately, in February, the Commonwealth redirected and committed to purchasing the corridor and reinstating the public process and an online survey for folks to provide input on the future of the corridor.
So, this is the moment to advocate for a vision—the Shenandoah Rail Trail—that is feasible, fiscally responsible, and results in a high-quality asset for the community.
The Numbers Are Conclusive. Building both rail and trail in the corridor would cost almost four times the amount of the trail we envision. The Shenandoah Rail Trail is the most cost-effective proposal and promises significant return on investment.

As a reminder, we’ve long supported the Shenandoah Rail Trail because it is a vision that:
⭐️ Keeps the corridor intact for future rail use
⭐️ Strengthens local economies
⭐️ Enhances quality of life across the Valley
⭐️ Delivers a fiscally responsible solution
HOW YOU CAN HELP

Take the survey before May 13: —Please show your support for preserving the corridor and building the 49-mile Rail-TO-Trail option.
Share WIDELY — This survey is the last phase of public input, and high turnout supporting the Shenandoah Rail Trail is critical to making the project a reality.
This initiative is vital for driving rural economic development and protecting our rural character and natural resources. Let’s secure this 49-mile community trail for generations to come.
Once you’ve completed the survey and shared with friends, visit shenandoahrailtrail.org for more details and to stay updated on the project’s progress.
