It’s Giving Tuesday, when we collectively dust the cornbread crumbs off our laps, look up from our black-Friday and cyber-Monday shopping and think about the role that nonprofits play in the wellbeing and success of our community.
As I’ve navigated the events that kick-off the holiday season, I recognize and am grateful for the hard work of our fellow nonprofits– tackling tough local social issues, providing services to those in need, and making our corner of the world a better place.
And I’m proud of our role at Alliance for the Shenandoah Valley as we doggedly track local planning and state policy to ensure that, years from now, you can still buy local from a farmer down the way for your holiday (and every day!) table. And I’m hopeful that our work with partners and farmers on clean water practices will pay off in the giggles of grandchildren splashing around in the clear, clean streams that were a highlight of my own childhood. And I know that because of our work, when folks visit years from now, they will still be enchanted by the unique character and entrepreneurship that is nurtured in our vibrant towns, that to us locals is just to be expected. Because together, we’re doing the work right now to ensure that future.
As you consider this Tuesday’s giving – can you help support this vision of working landscapes, clean streams and rivers and thriving communities with a gift to the Alliance?
The other thing I realize about our work is that it’s only successful when we’re all in it together – contributing our dollars, our time, and our voices to ensure our future Valley is a welcoming and beautiful place to live, work and play.
Thank you for the role you play, and for your support in ours.
And happy holidays!
