With no section of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River currently in the Virginia Scenic Rivers System, designation of this segment would be a first.
We applaud the restoration of funding to the county’s Conservation Easement Authority (CEA) to ensure Shenandoah County’s continued progress in land preservation – a community-wide benefit.
Chapman Landing to the northern border of Seven Bends State Park will be officially recognized for its natural, scenic, historic and recreational values as one of Virginia’s most valuable rivers.
Before the zoning update (left), the county could have seen a loss of more than a quarter of prime farmland to housing and the addition of up to 40,000 new lots in the next 40 years.
With many local businesses having closed their doors, reduced staff or even completely altered their business models in response to COVID-19, we are excited to see the county moving forward with a new program to support local businesses.

A committee of state legislators is meeting right now to finalize the budget. Please ask the members of this committee to support sufficient funding for land conservation and agricultural best management practices, like stream livestock exclusion and native tree planting. In order to meet the state’s 2025 water quality goals, there must be funding in place to get this work done.
