Jade Shull graduated in Spring 2026 from Virginia Commonwealth University with a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies and a minor in Urban and Regional Planning. Originally from Harrisonburg, she is excited to return to her roots in the Valley for the fellowship position at the Alliance. Jade’s commitment to the environment is supported by a diverse background in field research and conservation. She recently worked as a research technician at VCU’s Rice Rivers Center, where she contributed to wetland monitoring. Her field experience also included research at the University of Michigan Biological Station and leadership with the Appalachian Conservation Corps.

Beyond fieldwork, Jade is deeply invested in environmental communication and inclusivity. She served as an officer for two years in the VCU SEEDS club (Strategies for Ecology, Education, Diversity, and Sustainability). She is passionate about bridging the gap between scientific issues and the public. During her fellowship, Jade will take on community engagement initiatives, driven by her vision that lasting environmental change can only be achieved through connected and empowered communities.
