Great news! With your support we have hired our new Augusta County Coordinator, Joe Moore. Welcome, Joe! If you haven’t yet made your gift to support his work to advocate for rural landscapes and family farms, clean streams and rivers, and thriving communities in Augusta, Staunton, and Waynesboro, please make a gift today!
Augusta Next
We are raising funds towards a $190,000 goal so we can continue to protect farms and forests, headwater streams, and the vibrant communities in Augusta County, Staunton, and Waynesboro through a new full-time dedicated staff person.
Our goal will cover the first two years of salary and support for the position, and thanks to generous foundation support, we already have $130,000 committed.
That means we need to raise a total of $60,000 more from the community!
Ten years ago, when landowners started getting letters in the mail saying Dominion wanted easements across their land for a massive natural gas pipeline, you stepped up, rallying alongside other area residents to put a stop to the destructive proposal that would have cut through farms and forests, endangered homes and schools, and contaminated your drinking water.
Now we need help again.
We need community support to ensure that as local decisions are made, the rural landscapes, clean water and the deep, rich cultures in Augusta County are protected for future generations.
We’re positioned to take advantage of opportunities that add to the beauty and vibrancy of the county, and we must have the capacity and voice to say NO to the things that threaten what you care about.
As you know, Nancy Sorrells has been doing this work since the ACP defeat in 2020, and we recognize the need to build on her success. We are setting in motion a plan to make certain Augusta County thrives while its water and rural landscapes are protected—by bringing on board a new full-time staff person focused exclusively on local issues. This person will work closely with Nancy, who will transition into a mentoring and advisory position within the Alliance.
Gifts towards the $60,000 remaining to our goal will enable us to engage a talented, committed individual who will become deeply engaged in the day-to-day decisions that shape the future of Augusta, Staunton and Waynesboro.
We have secured foundation commitments to support the first two years of the new full time staff position and now we need to match that commitment with community support.
Your donation will mean that we can start a thorough search and have the new person on the ground with Nancy in the coming months.
In addition to your financial support, we also want your input. What issues do you see facing the area right now? In the next five years? What opportunities? We couldn’t and don’t want to do this work alone—your guidance is essential to our success.
We’re excited for this next chapter in Augusta County. Thanks in advance for your part in shaping it.
