Dairy Producer Margin Coverage Premium Assistance Program; expands eligibility for participation.
This legislation will further increase access to state reimbursements of premiums for the federal Dairy Margin Protection Program by allowing farmers who have an approved Natural Resource Conservation Service nutrient management or soil health plan developed by an approved planner to participate be eligible for reimbursement. The Dairy Margin Protection Program pays dairy farmers the difference between the price they’re able to sell milk for and the average cost of feed for their cows, and is basically an insurance policy for farmers in a volatile and essential market. This legislation would go a long way in assisting farmers in the Valley who are are also prioritizing clean water and healthy soil in their operations. Our appreciation goes out to Delegate Wilt for carrying this consequential legislation.
