Dairy Producer Margin Coverage Premium Assistance Program Fund; created, removes sunset provision.
This legislation extends the Dairy Producer Margin Coverage Premium Assistance Program that would have otherwise ended this year and creates a dedicated fund to continue the program.
The Producer Margin Coverage Premium Assistance Program, established by the 2021 General Assembly, provides reimbursements of the premium for the federal Dairy Margin Protection Program to participating farmers with approved resource management or nutrient management plans. The Federal Dairy Margin Protection Program pays dairy farmers the difference between the price they’re able to sell milk for and the average cost of feed for their cows, and is basically an insurance policy for farmers in a volatile and essential market. This state legislation assists dairy farmers in the Valley who are also prioritizing clean water and healthy soil in their operations.
Our appreciation goes out to Delegate Wilt and Senator Obenshain for carrying this consequential legislation.
