SIGNED – HB 141 | SB 158 – Virginia Black, Indigenous, and People of Color Historic Preservation Fund

Virginia Black, Indigenous, and People of Color Historic Preservation Fund; created.

This legislation establishes the Virginia Black, Indigenous, and People of Color Historic Preservation Fund to cover eligible costs to acquire, preserve and interpret historic structures, cultural landscapes and archaeological sites important to the history of Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. Funding is the greatest obstacle for localities and small local organizations seeking to preserve the historic sites and resources of these historically marginalized and underrepresented communities. Perpetual easement terms outlined in the legislation ensure that the Commonwealth remains a partner in preservation of sites of importance to the BIPOC community that have not been traditional priorities for state conservation grant funding.

HB 141 introduced by: Delegate Delores McQuinn (District 70)

SB 158 introduced by: Senator Ghazala Hashmi (District 10)
